Out Caste
A selection from a series of prints. These photographs are all about the displacement of people as they make the effort of going out of their way to feed their habit. I have looked at the choice of spaces where they stand and also captured the desperateness and loneliness which they show in their facial expressions and body language.
I could see that it's a time for reflection, time to set the mind at ease. It's not just a time to get a nicotine fix but a necessity, to get them through their day, however good or bad it's going. They seem to have no choice in separating themselves out. I began seeing these urban spaces differently; an empty space was no longer just an empty space, but a place someone might choose as their own territory, where they may go to contemplate their private world. |
